Luxury Bathrooms Aren't Just for the Rich and Famous

Luxury Bathrooms

Most of us cannot afford luxury bathrooms, but we can dream. One of the most luxurious bathrooms I have been in was not my own, but I surely enjoyed it for the weekend. My husband took me for our anniversary to a restored Victorian mansion where he booked the Diamond Jim Brady suite for the weekend. No, we are not wealthy, but when you book off season it is affordable. I wanted to live in that bathroom. The toilet area was separate and the whirlpool tub took up a large part of the room. It was beautifully tiled with gold plated fixtures and a chandelier over the tub. There were large plush towels and beautiful soaps and candles. The windows and tub surround had sumptuous drapes and the shower was in a separate place.

Many luxury bathrooms in private homes are incorporated into the master bedroom suite. You can get large soaking tubs, whirlpools, Jacuzzis, or one of those showers that have multiple streams of water. The idea is comfort so lots of bathrooms have love seats or padded benches. The cabinetry is usually high end and the lighting fixtures are as well.

If you have modern tastes, you can still have luxury with sleek fixtures and modern lighting. You don’t have to have velvet draperies to have a Luxe setting. It just depends on your taste. Stained glass windows are another popular addition. Many luxurious bathrooms open out onto a private courtyard or balcony and may have an outdoor tub. I could enjoy that in a warm climate, but I doubt it would get much use here in upstate New York.

Now most of us are not filthy rich, nor will we ever be, but we can add some luxury touches to our mundane lives on a budget. We just have to use our imaginations. Use some vintage inspired mirrors. Add some draperies around the tub area. When you think about what spells luxury to you, add those touches. Maybe luxury means fabulous, plush towels. Hit the outlet stores and clearance tables. You an often pick up lightly soiled or mismatched pieces for a song. Use interesting containers for your toiletries. Tie the curtains back with garage sale necklaces. For example; I have a fancy metal three tiered plant stand that has been all over the house. I bought it at a yard sale because the shape was interesting even though I had no purpose in mind. After several incarnations it landed in my bathroom and holds reading materials and extra toilet paper. People always comment on it. It looks expensive, but it cost three dollars.
