Bathroom Tubs Can Be Dream Time

Bathroom Tubs

I don’t know about you, but I can think a very few things more relaxing than soaking in a warm, scented bathtub full of bubbles after a stressful day. Bathroom tubs come in a big variety of styles these days. Early bathtubs in this country were often cast iron and started out as horse troughs or hog scalders. The addition of legs turned them into bathtubs. The claw-foot tub came in to popularity in the late 1900’s and was considered a luxury item. They were porcelain over cast iron and required a lot of water to fill them. My grandmother had one and when we were children it seemed as big as a swimming pool to us.

Most modern bathtubs are made of acrylic or fiberglass today. They are lightweight and can be made in a variety of shapes. You can still get cast iron or steel tubs with enamel coating. Bathroom tubs can be stand alone fixtures or combined with a shower bath. Whirlpool or Jacuzzi tubs came into popularity in the early sixties and seventies. Outdoor hot tubs that would accommodate several people were also in vogue during that time and remain popular today. While whirlpool tubs were originally for health purposes, lots of people enjoy them today. If you have an active lifestyle they are great for working out the kinks after exercise or sports. My first encounter with a Jacuzzi tub looked like a scene from I Love Lucy. We were at a nice hotel and I dumped in some bubble bath without thinking. In a matter of minutes the foam was cascading over my head. I could not reach the tap or controls and had to enlist the aid of my hysterically laughing husband to rescue me.

Beautiful bowl shaped garden tubs are popular additions to the bathroom. If you love to soak, you’ll want a nice deep tub. With or without a whirlpool feature these are lovely to relax in. You can also have a shower head in the bathtub or a separate shower bath. Some people don’t really care to soak in a tub and find a shower the quick and invigorating way to bathe. There are some nice shower options with multiple heads and massaging features as well as the rain bath variety with a very wide head and lots of holes to ensure gently cascading water.

Bathing is a necessity, but it can be a relaxing experience as well. With the large variety of bathroom tubs on the market today, you’ll be able to find the perfect one for your lifestyle.
