Bath Fixtures Are Actually Functional and Beautiful

Bath Fixtures
You can change the entire feel of a bathroom just by your choice of bath fixtures. We think of bath fixtures as faucets, towel bars and showerheads but sinks, tubs, and toilets are fixtures as well. They come in every style imaginable and can really make a statement.
Sinks go way beyond the simple wall hung models we all had as kids. Bowl shaped sinks can be mounted flush with the bathroom cabinetry and double sinks are common these days. They make dressing at the same time in one bathroom so much easier. Pedestal sinks make an elegant statement in a small bathroom or powder room. There are no exposed pipes and styles vary from very modern to antique styles. Vessel sinks are also popular these days. They look like a bowl sitting on top of the vanity and some even have a waterfall feature. They can be made of glass, stone or copper and look very trendy.
Tubs also have come a long way. Garden tubs, whirlpools, Jacuzzis, and reproduction claw-foot tubs are all available in many colors and patterns. Most tubs today are made of acrylic or fiberglass, but porcelain over cast iron or steel is also popular. If tubs are not your thing, the variety of showers on the market is wonderful. We have all seen the TV commercial about the couple racing to reach home first in order to use the shower with multiple heads. I would love one of those showers myself. I’m sure that elderly or handicapped people appreciate the availability of walk-in tubs. They often have a built in seat and hand held shower to make bathing a breeze without the fear of falling while getting in and out. Some of these also have whirlpool features to ease the pain of arthritis.
OK, the toilet is certainly a necessity and it has undergone a lot of changes over the years. You can still get a reproduction pull chain toilet that looks great in an older home. Toilets today are built to use less water than in years past. There are many different shapes and even king sized toilets. Some are equipped with a bidet and bidets are also sold as a separate feature.
When it comes to hardware, you can go in any direction. Many older homes are lacking the original fixtures and when remodeling people often scour through salvage yards to find period faucets for their homes. There are beautiful and modern reproductions that will spare you that search. If you want a taste of luxury, you can have gold-plated faucets and handles in a number of styles and shapes. Chrome, brass, and brushed nickel finishes are also popular. Towel bars and rings may also be available in coordinating styles. With the right choice in bath fixtures, your bathroom will be as well decorated as the rest of your home.
